On Skates or Off - We Need YOU!
There are many ways to get involved in the Monterey Bay Derby Dames. Know how to skate? Consider becoming a Skater or Referee? Don't skate? No worries, we can teach you and we always need Non-Skating Officials! There are many ways to get involved in the Monterey Bay Derby Dames. Check out the categories below for more info:
Skaters are the women you see on the track playing roller derby! No previous skating experience needed, but it certainly does help! You must be over 18 and female to be a skater (no worries young’ins, we have a junior program!). Skaters without experience start with Boot Camp then move to Fresh Meat!
Referees are the rules enforcers. They help keep the skaters safe while playing the game! Like skaters, no previous skating experience needed.
Non-skating officials are what makes the bout work! The NSO’s cover every part of the track from time and score keepers to penalty tracking. It’s a great way to get involved in the awesome sport of roller derby if skating is not for you or while learning the rules to bout.
Junior skaters are female skaters under 18. Our junior program is no-contact, positional only. Check out what the Dread Ponies are up to on Facebook.
Please fill out the New Member Application for more information on joining as a skater, referee, junior skater or non-skating official.
